By way of background, Great Causes, (GC) was a charity that operated between 2003 through to 2008. Its primary focus was delivering healthcare through its significant partner, Sightsavers. It contributed financially to several Sightsavers’ projects designed to prevent and address avoidable blindness.
GCII is a different organisation. It is an independent Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) foundation that works with professionals and experts to deliver targeted and systemic improvements in healthcare more generally.
What is GCII looking to address?
The advancement of health for the public benefit by preserving and protecting the health of those in need of treatment and care.
The trustees are committed to helping others by offering funding and working closely with our carefully selected and established partners.
We hope with our targeted support we will help them deliver positive outcomes and amplify their impact.
By working collaboratively with our partners, we believe that we can help develop scalable ways of working that reduce costs and increase impact.
Current status
GCII was registered on the 9th August 2022. Since registration the trustees have selected our first partner and have identified two projects that are closely aligned to GCII objects and also familiar to the trustees’ experiences.
The trustees are working with our partner St Christopher’s Hospice to launch these projects in early 2023, which will be an exciting and important milestone for GCII.
We hope that this small initial engagement grows to deliver huge value to the public as well as the people delivering these services.
“St Christopher’s is delighted to be working in partnership with Great Causes II to improve the experience of people who are dying or bereaved across the UK and beyond. We are most grateful for funding that will support two important and cutting edge initiatives. The Trust is helping to bring to life an all-important report published in 2021 by the Lancet regarding the value of death and how global inequities at the end of life can and must be addressed. It is also funding a new project that will improve the practice of nurses delivering palliative care to the benefit of people in their care.
These projects are both ambitious and innovative. They require funders who are big picture, courageous and who enjoy a journey of adventure and discovery. We believe that Great Causes II will be perfect in this respect based on our work to date and look forward to a long term partnership that works for us all.”
